Mustelid Sample Collection Pictures
Samples of mustelid species (primarily weasels, but also Martens) were collected by members of the BC Trappers' Association and the Alberta Trappers' Association during the winter of 2024/25. Research team members picked up the samples to bring them to UNBC in the summer of 2025. We brought plenty of dry ice so that there was no risk of samples thawing during the drive. Below are some pictures from our stop at the Alberta Trappers' Association.
MSc student Kevin Petersen has begun to organize the samples and make plans for tissue analyses according to the plans outlined in the above research poster.

Mustelids & Ungulates Sample Collection
Members of our partner organisations have been collecting samples of tissues, faecal material, and/or hair from harvested animals, primarily weasels and moose, since October, 2024. As of June 2025, 68 sample kits have been retrieved and are being stored in a freezer at UNBC. Soon, graduate students will being working with these samples and the contents between our researchers to begin analyses. The remaining sample kits will be used in the fall and winter of 2025-26.
